Patrice Bongrand est sculpteur et plasticien céramiste d’art. Grâce à la pratique assidue de sa grande passion, le bonsaï, qu'il pratique depuis plus de vingt-cinq ans, il rencontre des maîtres japonais qui l’initient aux arts traditionnels du Japon.
Pour ses créations, il s’inspire des grands peintres japonais (Hokusaï et Hiroshige), des impressionnistes (Monet, Van Gogh, Cézanne), mais il puise aussi et surtout son inspiration dans les arts traditionnels japonais et les beautés de la nature.
Deux techniques issues de la tradition des céramistes japonais :
- Le raku moyenne température (entre 1100°c et 1000°c) pour réaliser des sculptures, des tableaux.
- Le grès cuit au four à bois anagama a 1320]c (cuisson de 25 à 30 heures) pour les sculptures, les bols à thé (chawan).
