Pier Maurizio Greco è nato a Modena, vive e lavora a Roma.
Si è laureato in Storia dell'Arte Contemporanea all’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”, con una tesi su Mario Schifano, frutto di incontri personali con l’artista nel suo studio romano, e ha conseguito l’abilitazione all'insegnamento (classe 61A - Storia dell'Arte) nel concorso a cattedre del 1999/2000.
Dalla fine degli anni ’80 utilizza la fotografia come strumento di indagine e ricerca, partendo da textures materiche e dettagli di oggetti casuali. Alcuni anni dopo inizia a dipingere, segue corsi di pittura, e indaga le possibilità espressive della pittura acrilica, tecnica che costituisce tuttora la sua pratica pittorica d’elezione.
Le prime opere su tela sono caratterizzate da una forte matrice astratta, riconducibili ad un informale tonale e segnico, in cui affiorano, talvolta, suggestioni etniche e riferimenti ad immagini simboliche. Gradualmente, prende corpo nel tempo un processo sintetico, condizione in cui la superficie pittorica costituisce il territorio di contiguità tra realtà oggettiva e astrazione.
Ha esposto in numerose mostre in Italia e all'estero (lista completa su Notizie).
Ha scritto testi, articoli, e presentazioni di mostre. E’ Pubblicista da gennaio 2011, iscritto all'Ordine dei Giornalisti del Lazio.
