Mathieu Vaillant is een hedendaagse Franse beeldhouwer. Na de Beaux-Arts te hebben doorlopen, bracht Vaillant zijn smaak voor tekenen in de praktijk door industrieel ontwerp te studeren. Het is dus in de Toegepaste Kunst dat hij carrière maakte, en meer bepaald als creatieveling in een reclamebureau. Zijn voorliefde voor kunst heeft hem nooit verlaten, en is spontaan teruggekomen door middel van beeldhouwkunst, met geen ander doel dan een behoefte aan artistieke expressie los te laten.
De kunstenaar vindt inspiratie in het verlangen om te creëren, in het creëren van een vorm, in de geboorte van een spontane beweging, in de ontsnapping aan het ritme van het medium en in een plastische expressie. Het gevoel van de klei, de elasticiteit van de hars, de transformatie van de klei en de constante verandering van toestand veroorzaakt door de inspanningen van de kunstenaar tot aan de finishing touch maken zijn materialen zeer verslavend.
