Gaspard de Gouges woont en werkt in de Gard, tussen Montpellier en Marseille (Frankrijk). Hij is afgestudeerd aan de Nationale School voor Decoratieve Kunsten in Parijs. In de vroege jaren 2000 begon hij figuratieve doeken op groot formaat, groepsportretten, te schilderen. Sinds 2021 wijdt hij zich aan fotografie, wat voor hem een spel is geworden, een soort bewegingsloze reis.
"J'ai commencé à photographier des mises en scène quand j'avais 10 ans, avec des jouets et des maquettes très réalistes que je construisais avec des tiges d'herbes sèches,des véhicules miniautures. Depuis longtemps je voulais photographier des îles, pour leur puissance onirique, j'adore y voyager et leur souvenir persiste. Leur existence nous plonge dans un ailleurs. Je les imaginais tropicales, mais c'est sur des îles minérales et méditerranéennes que j'ai finalement décidé d'évoquer. Ma démarche est de créer des mises en scène, des paysages artificiels mais plausibles, réalistes. Je crée des mondes imaginaires, parfois contenant des ruines, du moins des rochers qui font parfois penser à des forteresses. Ces paysages me surprennent et me donnent toujours beaucoup de plaisir à scheppen. "
