Paolo Benedetti's very personal production stands out for the use of a technique, considered by many art critics to be genuinely interesting and unique, called "Contemporary Graphics", where vibrant brushstrokes create "New Visual Suggestions "...

What made you decide to become an artist? What is your path?

I have always had it in me since my childhood, then the Faculty of Architecture forced me to take a break for about thirty years (1975/2007), then I resurfaced with great enthusiasm, winning contests, publications, etc.

What are the three aspects that differentiate you from other artists?

According to many art critics, there is a really interesting and unique technique called "contemporary graphics", where vibrant brushstrokes create "new visual suggestions".

Where does your inspiration come from?

The painters who contributed to my education are Monet, Van Gogh and Cézanne. Monet for his incomparable extemporaneity, Van Gogh for the brilliance of his colors (with the exception of the potato-eating period) and for his myriad visible brushstrokes, and Cézanne for the engravings he made on the Sainte-Victoire mountain around 1900.

Tell us about the design of your works. Do you have a long preparatory work or is it spontaneous?

For these works, there is never any premeditation, I have an idea, a few minutes to work on it mentally and then GO. As the "Grafismi Contemporanei" technique is a "substitute" for my profession as an architect, it sometimes arises in connection with a project, whether it is a place or a person; in short, it is a continuous coming and going of situations of which I am often a victim ... pleasantly.

What do you want to show through your work?

I do not know if the expression launched by an art critic during an award ceremony is the correct one: "the movement of fixity" (his words), that is to say that j I managed to give movement to the work even though it is on a fixed support by nature - the canvas.

Do you use unusual techniques or materials in your work?

The material is simply acrylic, sometimes combined with a substance that comes to mind at the time given the type of subject.

Do you have a favorite format? Why?

I prefer a large format to give more space to the brushstrokes.

What difficulties do you encounter in your work?

The beginning is always tragic because, since it is a spray painting, at the beginning I don't see the right result until it starts to form, after which everything goes downhill.

How do you work? At home, in a shared studio or in private?

At home.

Does your work as an artist require you to travel a lot?

No.

What is the best time of your career?

The years from 2008 to 2019, then COVID stopped everything.

How do you see yourself in your work ten years from now?

I hope to be more energetic than now.

What are you currently working on? Do you plan to exhibit your works in the near future?

I am currently on stand-by. For a new exhibition, I hope that I will be given the OK for a solidarity exhibition with the AIRC, to which I will donate 50% of the proceeds.

If you could have created a famous work in the history of art, what would it have been?

Honestly, between "THE PAINTER" and "THE ARCHITECT", I didn't have the opportunity to think about it.

If you could invite a famous artist (dead or alive) to dinner, who would it be?

Monet
