Christine Kerfant est une mosaïste plasticienne professionnelle.
C'est l'émotion esthétique qui l'a saisi lors de sa découverte des œuvres fantasques et organiques d'Antoni Gaudi, à Barcelone, en 1992, qui est à l'origine de son histoire avec la mosaïque.
Mosaïste depuis 25 ans, elle a fait ses premières armes auprès de maîtres mosaïstes tels que Verdiano Marzi (issu de l'école de Ravenne - Italie), Gérard Brand (pionner de la mosaïque contemporaine - Obernai) ou encore la plasticienne mosaïste, France Hogué (Paris).
A l’instar des mosaïques pariétales byzantines, ce que Christine aime, c'est jouer avec la lumière se réfléchissant dans les tesselles. Pour elle, la mosaïque ne doit pas être une peinture lissée. Au contraire, il s'agit de jouer avec les irrégularités de la matière pour créer cette vibration qui est propre à la mosaïque.
A la fois kinesthésique et visuelle, son approche de la mosaïque inscrit sa démarche de mosaïste plasticienne dans le double choix du volume et du mouvement, la recherche d'une écriture des reliefs.
Au-delà du minéral, son médium préféré, Christine ne s'interdit pas d'explorer d'autres champs plastiques (sculpture, peinture, collages, sable, etc.) que ce soit pour suivre les veines ou accidents de la matière, dévier les adamenti trop attendus ou simplement offrir un écrin différent aux tesselles ...
Sans jamais lâcher sa passion pour la mosaïque, elle a dû, cependant, exercer différents métiers créatifs dans l'édition, la presse et la décoration d'intérieur, avant de pouvoir s'installer en Médoc et y ouvrir l'atelier Mosaïque Médoc. Un atelier à son image : pour transmettre, partager son art et surtout ne plus vivre que de cet art.
