About the Gallery

The Signature Beyond Art Gallery is a West Africa-based gallery of Nigerian origin. The gallery promotes and supports Nigerian established artists as well as young emerging artists. The gallery organizes exhibitions for the artists under the management of the gallery in the center of Nigeria, whereas it showcases their artworks at art auctions in Nigeria to the world. The gallery has an auction house (SOGAL) in Lagos.

The Signature African Art gallery was founded in 1992 in Nigeria and opened a second location in Mayfair London in 2019. The gallery focuses solely on showcasing exhibitions of Contemporary Art by artists from Africa and the diaspora. The goal is to give the artists a platform to thrive and have their works accessible by all art lovers. We represent established artists like Oluwole Omofemi and Dotun Popoola, as well as up and coming artists like Damilola Opedun and Djakou Kassi Nathalie. Over the past couple of years we have hosted shows presented by Ava DuVernay, which received a 4 star rating by the Telegraph, and Maro Itoje, which highlighted the lack of African history in the UK curriculum.

There Has Been A Number Of Definitions By Many Erudite Scholars In The Effort To Finding The Real Meaning Of Art; However, The Most Correct Ones Should Resonate The Basic Principle Of World View, Which Is Within The Extension Of Finding The Essence Of Life (Meaning) And Ameliorating The Human Condition (Solving Problems). In Defining Art As A Product Therefore, We Can Present It As Any Human Expression With A Meaning Or A Collection Of Meanings; Whereas, As A Process We Can Present It As Any Human Expression Or Communication In Which The Objective Or Purpose Is To Create Meanings Or Solve Problems, Especially Social Problems. This Represents The Diagnosis Of The Concise Meaning Of Art And Based On This Diagnosis, We Are About To Sample The Conventional Standard Of Art Business In Nigeria Characterized By Prostituting The Value Of Art, To Which The Messianic Collections Of Mr. Akar Rahman Forms A Repository Of Cultural Decolonisation Speaking Volumes Visually.
