Philippe Rude è un artista francese contemporaneo. Si dedicò alla ceramica, un mondo di terra e fuoco in cui poteva esprimere la sua immaginazione con potenza, profondità e complessità. L'artista, secondo i suoi incontri ei suoi viaggi immaginari, scoprirà attraverso il battesimo del fuoco l'opera dell'ossido di rame e del fumo. Stupito dai colori cangianti causati dall'incidenza della luce, questa tecnica ne amplifica la sensibilità e fa eco a questa emozione infantile ed effimera dell'arcobaleno.
La sua collezione "CUBE" è diventata lo standard per una serie di variazioni: legno, resina, ceramica e persino gioiello a forma di anello con sigillo, una sorta di firma identitaria. L'artista utilizza anche questo cubo frantumato per realizzare la sua "Vanità" o anche un totem cronologico con variazioni di colori e materiali che simboleggiano lo spazio-tempo e intitolato "Dalla pace alla pace". Questa forma di "schiacciamento" del cubo ritorna sottilmente in molte sculture.
