The World of Cans which brings together the artist's passion for the world of miniatures and his sensitivity to the environment.

nhn3879.jpg “One summer day, during a walk, I contemplate the landscape and happiness overwhelms me, immediately followed by a deep sadness: my vision is contaminated by the waste of all kinds and in particular cans of all brands”. This is how The World of Cans was born, which brings together the artist's passion for the world of miniatures and his sensitivity to the environment.

Régis Gomez was then 18 years old and now knew what he wanted to create: a few sketches followed, leading to the manufacture of sculptures made from cardboard, plastic, wood, all cut, glued, painted. From his village near Namur, in Belgium, the self-taught artist then makes the can the main actor of scenes which all have something to say about our environment.

Some are immediately meaningful, like this “Paradise” where the sand can no longer even cover the can, which has become the main element of the island. Others are in tune with current events, such as these refugees who tie themselves to a can that acts as a ridiculous lifeline. The series now includes enough pieces for the artist to work on an exhibition.
