About the author
Hello. My name is Sasha Kashanskaya. I'm a graphic artist. I live and work in St. Petersburg, Russia. Here I received my art education.
Most of the time I do illustrations for children's and adult books. The works presented in the gallery are based on my sketches in nature and studio sketches from nature, as well as on reflections on a topic that went beyond book projects.
I draw works in a stylized, expressive, slightly unfinished manner, leaving room for the viewer's imagination. I mainly draw fragments of flora, landscapes, portraits, and figures. Light and expression, generalization of silhouettes, bright open colors in my works are inspired by the work of Impressionists and expressionists.I am inspired by the combination of colors in everyday life and lighting that emphasizes or distorts the silhouettes of objects. The impression and uniqueness of the elusive moment is the basis of my creativity. For my purposes in my work, I use watercolors and colored ink. Of course, I use other artistic materials for sketching, such as fountain pens and pencils. But watercolors best convey the mood and intent, while adding their own character to the picture. I let the fluid paint express itself, combining my professional drawing skills with the properties of the material and observing the elements of watercolors. For me, it is valuable to convey movement in a drawing and find an unusual, but harmonious composition.I use ink to create concise plot drawings. And I limit the number of colors of ink, while enriching the drawing with textures: I dilute with water, write with a dry brush, add details with a thin pen, a calligraphic brush, scratch with a needle, spray ink on paper... I use the properties of the material according to maximum. Ink and watercolors give the impression of fast photographic execution, which emphasizes the theme of the rapid flow of time.
