Arnold August Nobis, a contemporary Austrian artist, has harbored a lifelong passion for graphics and painting. His artistic journey began after graduating from the Pamplona Art School as an applied sculptor, whereupon he established a spacious studio within an old factory hall in Bilbao. It was here that Nobis honed his unique techniques, incorporating unconventional materials such as sand, dust, coffee powder, and bitumen into his work.
Predominantly abstract, Nobis' paintings exist within the realm of tension between the body, architecture, representational motifs, and abstract shapes. By layering pictorial surfaces, he imbues his pieces with a sense of depth, expanding the space and inviting viewers into a world of intricate interconnections.
Currently residing and working in Austria, Nobis's artwork has been showcased in numerous national and international venues and has found its way into private collections across Austria, Czechia, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland.
For Nobis, painting is a dialogue with an entity yearning to be born on the canvas. The expressive qualities and legitimacy of his work stem from the delicate coordination and harmonization of colors, shapes, and stylistic elements. Inspired by his time living along the Atlantic coast in northern Spain, where he found solace in the decaying shipyards and the ceaseless rhythm of the sea, Nobis strives to create artworks that transcend time, imbuing them with a sense of infinity and timelessness that resonates with viewers across generations.
