Jems Cehes is a contemporary French painter. He is particularly interested in the fragile border that separates the conscious from the unconscious. Man is therefore at the center of his work, both the observer and the observed.

According to Cehes, painting is a walk, a long journey through one's inner self, through landscapes, and through other mental tiny holes. The accident is undoubtedly his line's most dependable ally, and as a result, he feels more like an explorer than a creator, uncovering his shadows when they have the audacity to surface.

Surrealist by accident, the central idea that permeates all of his work is thus to free oneself from the control of one's reason in order to be a spectator of one's own creatures and, like a researcher into the unknown, to disappear as much as possible without losing sight of the paradox of the process at hand.
