Are you looking for a new piece of art to hang on your wall?
A French painter, Claude Monet is considered one of the greatest artists of all time. In the late 19th and early 20th century, he revolutionized modern art. His works are displayed in museums around the world. He was a leading figure in the Impressionist movement.
Claude Monet was born in Paris on November 14, 1840. When he was a boy, his family moved to the French town of Le Havre. Although his father did not encourage him to become a painter, Claude's mother helped him follow his dream.
Claude's father, Adolphe, was a grocer and ship chandler. He also served in the military. But the family struggled financially in the early 1860s. However, Claude developed a love for drawing at an early age.
During his early life, Claude made small oil sketches outdoors. These were initially used to study the effects of light. This technique was later incorporated into his art.
Upon his arrival in Paris, Claude met and was influenced by landscape artist Eugene Boudin. Boudin encouraged Claude to take up plein air painting.
During the 1870s, Monet worked in Giverny, a village on the Seine near Paris. He bought a house there and began a landscaping project. Soon after, he started painting water lilies on a large scale. Eventually, he painted a series of scenes of the Seine.
After his first child was born, Monet suffered from severe physical and emotional hardships. Camille Doncieux became his muse. She sat for many of his paintings.
