American artist Keith Allen Haring is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 1980s. He rose to prominence through the graffiti subculture of New York City, where his animated imagery was a popular form of expression. Today, his work has achieved worldwide recognition for its bold, colorful, and sometimes controversial imagery. All of his works are characterized by their bold colors and bold use of contrasting styles.
Although Keith Haring had a relatively brief career, he was an influential figure during the 1980s. In 1986, his work was featured in over a hundred solo exhibitions and forty group shows. During this time, he worked with artists such as Madonna, Grace Jones, Bill T. Jones, Timothy Leary, and Yoko Ono. His work has become an internationally recognized visual language. The artist's work has been shown in numerous museums and galleries around the world.
The renowned artist was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and spent his early childhood in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. His father was a cartoonist, and Haring loved to draw. He attended a local art school, the Ivy School of Professional Art, and briefly went to the University of Pittsburgh for a few years. He returned to school in New York City and enrolled in the School of Visual Arts.
